The Maserati GranTurismo exhaust system consists of the following components: ① Exhaust Manifold ② Downpipe ③ Center Muffler ④ Rear Exhaust.
The overall design of the vehicle is very similar to the Ferrari California 4.3L V8 of the same era.
It is often said that replacing the center pipe and front pipe (downpipe) in the GranTurismo increases the sound range that disappears at high RPMs.
Indeed, replacing the downpipe and center pipe increases the volume and results in a wonderful sound compared to the stock setup. However, the unique guttural tone of the GranTurismo remains, and it cannot achieve the crisp and extended sound like a Ferrari.
On the other hand, this characteristic sound might be what makes the GranTurismo appealing.
However, there are probably those who want to tune the sound more towards the Ferrari side, given that it shares a sister engine with the Ferrari California 4.3L.
Therefore, we have developed a long-tube equal-length exhaust manifold, which is the source of the high-pitched and beautiful sound like a brass instrument, along with a dedicated downpipe.
After many years, we have finally managed to commercialize this setup for all models of the GranTurismo series (2007-2022) including the later models of the Quattroporte:
- Automatic models (4.2AT/4.7AT/4.7SMC Auto Shift/GranCabrio)
- Semi-automatic models (4.7S MC Shift/MC Stradale)
This system is compatible with both right-hand and left-hand drive vehicles.
The following images showcase the never-ending loop process of manufacturing, fitting to the actual vehicle, re-manufacturing, fitting again, iterating toward the perfection.
Here are some of the challenges we faced during the development of the exhaust manifold:
- **Height restrictions for each tube:** If the height is too high, it interferes with the steering shaft; if too low, it contacts the engine mount. We had to make millimeter-level adjustments between these limits to avoid interference.
- **Pipe angles with the catalytic converter attached**
- **Placement of gas detection sensors and adjustment of piping angles** to make it easier to insert tools. Of course, maintaining equal length is a prerequisite, so changing the angle of one pipe required remeasuring all limits from scratch.
It took over two years to create the prototype and successfully bring it to market, but it is undoubtedly a product that excites the curiosity of those pursuing the F1 sound.
In recent years, vehicles equipped with such great engines capable of pursuing the F1 sound have become more accessible, so we hope you fully enjoy their potential!
Our exhaust manifold can even accommodate an additional catalytic converter.
To summarize the changes after installing the manifold, the equal-length design picks up all sound ranges, significantly improves sound distortion, increases volume compared to vehicles with full straight pipes without the manifold, and the high RPM sound is otherworldly.
Additionally, our center muffler is compatible as long as it features a single merged section. However, if it has an X-pipe design or is dual-piped, it won't fully unleash the potential of a high-pitched sound. Therefore, we recommend considering optimizing your sound tuning with our product!
